Biblical Characters - Jeremiah 2(Church of God*Christ Ahnsahnghong-wmscog)

Persecution

The prophets who preach the truth are always to be persecuted. Jeremiah was also persecuted by the king, priests, people and the false prophets who were admitted at that time.

Jer 37:15-21 『They were angry with Jeremiah and had him beaten and imprisoned in the house of Jonathan the secretary … 』

Jer 20:1-2 『When the priest Pashhur son of Immer, the chief officer in the temple of the LORD, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things, he had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put in the stocks at the Upper Gate of Benjamin at the LORD's temple.』

The false prophets always proclaimed peace but Jeremiah proclaimed the destruction and judgment toward the people who had left God's commands and law. So it is not strange that the religious leaders and the people didn't like Jeremiah.
Jeremiah was distressed because he was persecuted unfairly. He sometimes decided, 'I will not speak any more in the name of LORD,' but whenever he thought like that, his heart became like a fire and proclaimed the people's sins and persuaded them to return to God (Jer 20:7-13).

Jerusalem's Destruction

In eleventh year of King Zedekiah, the people of Judah were destroyed, who neglected the decrees and laws of God and persecuted the prophet who prophesied a disaster which would come upon them (Jer 39:2).

King Zedekiah tried to flee but was caught. He couldn't save his son who was being slaughtered before his eyes and couldn't stop the Babylonian soldiers who put out his eyes (Jer 39:7).

All the nobles were killed; the royal palace and the houses were burnt and the walls were all broken down.

Those who had gone over to Babylon as Jeremiah had suggested were not killed, but they were carried into exile to Babylon. Only the poor people were left behind in Israel and were given the vineyards and fields (Jer 39:8-10).

Moving to Egypt
Nebuzaradan the commander released Jeremiah among the captives, following the command of King Nebuchadnezzar. However the corrupt Jews ignored God's command to stay in the land of Judah. They assassinated Gedaliah whom the king of Babylon had appointed as governor and they fled to Egypt, being afraid of the revenge (Jer 41:16-18).

The Jews who moved to Egypt followed the false gods in Egypt and stirred up God's anger again (Jer 44:12).

God Promised to Establish the New Covenant

One day, God gave words of grace about the Israelites to Jeremiah who was prophesying a terrible disaster and judgment to the Israelites and the Jews who had left God's law.

Jer 31:31-34 『"The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. … "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.』

About 600 years after this prophecy was proclaimed, the new covenant was established by Jesus Christ. However the truth of the new covenant couldn't last.

After Jesus and His disciples left the world, the Church began to accept the false religions of the pagans and abolished the new covenant of the Passover in A.D. 325.

Jeremiah warned the people who had violated the law of Moses; and we are warning the people of this age who have violated the new covenant, the everlasting covenant established by the Christ.

Heb 10:28-29 『Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?』

Teachings for Us

What happened just before Judah was destroyed was a shadow of what is happening now just before the judgment which will be brought upon the whole earth.

The people at the time of Jeremiah left God's commands and followed the pagan customs. It was a copy of this age when people follow the polytheism of Rome and oppose God by keeping Sunday service, Christmas and so on.

The priests, prophets and the people of Judah left God. They wanted peace with their lips but destroyed peace and stirred up God's anger. Today's people are in the same situation.

God said, "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun" (Ecc 1:9). The destruction of Jerusalem represents that of the earth in the last day.

Jeremiah warned the coming disaster, saying, "Let us flee to the fortified cities [Zion]!" (Jer 4:5). This warning is speaking for ours, "Gather to Zion where God's feasts are celebrated before the last disaster comes upon the earth!"

In conclusion, the mission of Jeremiah is a model of that of the 144,000, the last living saints.

Just as Jeremiah obeyed God's will, not being afraid of people, we should enlighten those who do lawlessness and preach the true love of God to them.

Let us preach the commandments of God to the whole world!

Biblical Knowledge - The earthly sanctuary and the heavenly sanctuary(Church of God)

The earthly sanctuary and the heavenly sanctuary

As mentioned, the earthly sanctuary built by Moses was the shadow of the heavenly sanctuary where Christ would offer the true sacrifices as the mediator in the future.

When we pray to God at the appointed times every day and on the Sabbath day, Christ serves as priest in the heavenly sanctuary, so our prayers go up before God with the smoke of the incense to be answered. At the prayer times in God's commanded feasts, too, Christ serves as priest and mediator in the heavenly sanctuary, so we are able to communicate with God.

※ Mediator is the one who goes between two groups or persons to help them work out their differences and come to agreement. Christ became the fellowship offering to reconcile us to God. He was the mediator between God and us. He turned the heart of God to their children and the hearts of the children to God by establishing the new covenant (Heb 9:15; Ro 3:25).

The Apostle Paul wrote that the saints in the Old Testament times kept the feasts of God on earth and the saints in the New Testament times are keeping the feasts of the new covenant in heaven (Heb 12:22-23).

Therefore, through the regulations kept in the earthly sanctuary, we can understand the heavenly sanctuary and the meaning of the feasts which are kept in the heavenly sanctuary. Unless we understand the heavenly sanctuary, we can never understand the feasts of the new covenant nor observe them.

Christ is still mediating for us in the heavenly sanctuary. He causes the prayers of the saints to come before God at the times of regular burnt offering, of the Sabbath day services and of the feasts. Let us give thanks to Christ for His mediation and keep the decrees and laws of God holy so that we can have the forgiveness of our sins.

Biblical Knowledge - The tree of life and the Ten Commandments(wms cog)

The tree of life and the Ten Commandments

The priests offered the sacrifices in the tabernacle according to the regulations. Among the furnishings in the tabernacle, the most important one was the ark of the covenant which had the stone tablets with the Ten Commandments written on them. The ark of the covenant was placed in the Most High Place. No one could enter the Most Holy Place except the high priest. He entered it just once a year, after making atonement by sprinkling an animal's blood on the Day of Atonement (Lev 16:6-34, Heb 9:1-11).

The gold cover which covered the ark of the covenant was called the atonement cover. On the atonement cover, there were two cherubim with wings. These cherubim represented the cherubim protecting the tree of life in the Garden of Eden. This means that God gave us the Ten Commandments instead of the tree of life which was in the Garden of Eden.

If anyone entered the Most Holy Place, where was the Ten Commandments [the tree of life], he could not avoid death. When Aaron's two sons offered unauthorized fire before God, they were burnt to death by fire coming from God (Lev 10:1-2). Uzzah took hold of the ark of the covenant and died right away (2 Sa 6:6-8).

This is because the cherubim protecting the tree of life in the Garden of Eden had a flaming sword (Ge 3:24.).

Biblical Knowledge - The tabernacle in the land of Canaan (WMS COG)

The tabernacle in the land of Canaan

After entering the land of Canaan, the tabernacle which was made in the period of Moses was set up in Shiloh, and the ark of the covenant of God was placed in the tabernacle (Jos 18:1).
There were much meandering in the period of the judges. The ark of the covenant was in Shiloh until the time of Eli the judge. When the Israelites had a battle against the Philistines, Israelites fought against them with the ark of the covenant at the head to win the battle, but in the end a lot of people died and the ark of the covenant was stolen (1 Sa 4:1-22).
The Philistines placed the ark of the covenant in Dagon's temple. When they rose the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the God. They took Dagon and put him back in his place. But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of God.
They feared God of Israel and moved it to another place, but God brought a big disaster on that area, so the ark was moved to Beth Shemesh which is located around Israel (1 Sa 6:1-18).
But God struck down the men of Beth Shemesh, putting 50.070 of them to death because they had looked into the ark of God. The people mourned because of the heavy blow God had dealt them. Afterwards the ark was moved to Kiriath, and stayed in the house of Abinadab and remained there for 20 years (1 Sa 6:19-7:3).

Biblical Charaters - Nehemiah (Church of God&Jerusalem Mother)

Nehemiah is a prophet who completed his duty of rebuilding the wall of city Jerusalem, depending absolutely on God and fighting against those who interrupted the work of rebuilding.

Historical Background

When Judah was destroyed by Babylon, the Jerusalem temple was destroyed as well. Afterward in B.C. 537, King Cyrus of Persia who conquered Babylon was moved by the LORD God and made a proclamation and put it in writing to build the Jerusalem temple (Ezra 1:1-4).

However, afterward the enemies such as Rehum and Shimshai sent a letter to the king of Persia [Artaxerxes] and denounced that the Jews would rebel against him. Then the building of the temple was stopped for 15 years.

In the second year of Darius of Persia (B.C. 520), as prophets Haggai and Zechariah prophesied, the building of the temple began again.

This time also there were enemies who interrupted the work.

They sent a letter to King Darius, but because he knew what happened in the past, he commanded the Jews to build the temple in Jerusalem as King Cyrus did. He also let it be written that some of the tax to the king could be used for building the temple, and that if there was anyone who interrupted the building of the temple, he would be hung from a beam of his house and that if the kings destroyed the Jerusalem temple, he wanted God to destroy them.

So in the 6th year of King Darius (B.C. 516), the temple was completed.

Nehemiah Became a Governor of Judah

In the time of King Artaxerxes of Persia (who was different from the former king, Artaxerxes), there was a cupbearer to the king called Nehemiah. He feared God and kept His laws.

In the 20th year of King Artaxerxes, Nehemiah's brother Hanani and other men came to the citadel of Susa of Persia from Jerusalem in Judah and said to Nehemiah about Jerusalem, "The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire." When Nehemiah heard this, he wept and for some days he mourned and fasted and prayed before God.

One day in the month of Nisan, Nehemiah went before the king to give him wine. King Artaxerxes noticed that Nehemiah was sad and asked him for the reason. He told the king that his people were in suffering and the Jerusalem wall had been broken down and its gates had been burned with fire. Then he asked the king to let him go to rebuild the Jerusalem wall.

The LORD God moved the king, and he appointed Nehemiah to the governor of Judah and allowed him to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem.

The king made the keeper of the king's forest give Nehemiah timber, and for a safe travel to Jerusalem the king also sent army officers and cavalry with Nehemiah with letters to the governors. Nehemiah promised the king that he would come back in 12 years and left to Jerusalem.

Building the Wall of Jerusalem

When Sanballat the Horonite who was the governor of Samaria, and Tobiah who followed him heard that Nehemiah the governor of Judah came to rebuild Jerusalem, they were very disturbed and began to think how to interrupt him.

Nehemiah arrived in Jerusalem and saw the walls broken down, and its gates destroyed by fire. He gathered the priests and nobles and officials and explained that God had moved King Artaxerxes and that he had been appointed as governor for rebuilding the wall.

Ne 2:17 『 … "You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace."』

The people heard Nehemiah and began to rebuild the wall in teams. Every family including that of the priests participated in the rebuilding of the wall delightfully.
Sanballat from Samaria became angry and was greatly incensed when he heard that the Jews were rebuilding the wall. He ridiculed them, "What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble-burned as they are?" Tobiah who was at his side said, "What they are building-if even a fox climbed up on it, he would break down their wall of stones!"

However, Nehemiah and the Jews didn't care them and concentrated on rebuilding the wall and prayer. Then God helped the Jews and frustrated the enemies' plot. They all began to rebuild the wall.

Half of Nehemiah's men participated in the work of rebuilding, while the other half were equipped with spears, shields, bows and armor. Each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked. Every man who rebuilt the wall stayed inside Jerusalem at night to guard the wall and worked during the daytime. Nehemiah and his brothers and his men didn't even take off the clothes and participated in guarding and rebuilding the wall.

When the wall was almost completed, Sanballat, Tobiah and other enemies sent letters to Nehemiah and asked him to meet together. He knew their purpose was to harm him and refused to meet them and prayed to God even harder.

The enemies plotted again. They hired Shemaiah and made him give a wrong prophecy to Nehemiah. To intimidate the heart of Nehemiah, Shemaiah said to him, "Let us meet in the house of God, inside the temple, and let us close the temple doors, because men are coming to kill you-by night they are coming to kill you."
However Nehemiah was concentrating only on rebuilding Jerusalem according to God's will, so the threat of the enemies didn't work.

The wall was completed 52 days after they began to rebuild it, fighting with the enemies. When the enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of God.

After the wall was rebuilt and Nehemiah set the doors in place, the gatekeepers and the singers and the Levites were appointed. He put his brother Hanani in charge of Jerusalem, along with Hananiah the commander of the citadel.

Nehemiah let the gates of Jerusalem be opened when the sun became hot, and made the appointed residents guard the wall. In the seventh month, all people gathered and learned the laws of God through Ezra the prophet and kept the Feast of Tabernacles holy.

They decided to keep all the laws of God such as the Sabbath day, Sabbath year and each annual feast. They also decided to make the priests serve for the sanctuary by making the people offer tithes, and not to intermarry with the Gentiles.

12 years passed and Nehemiah went back to Persia as he promised the king. Afterward, Nehemiah was allowed again by the king to return to Jerusalem.

When he returned to Jerusalem, he found out that Eliashib had provided Tobiah, who had disturbed building the wall, a large room in the temple, formerly used to store the grain offerings and incense and temple articles, and also the tithes of grain, new wine and oil prescribed for those who served for the temple, as well as the contributions for the priests.
Nehemiah learned about the evil thing and threw all Tobiah's household goods out of the room. He had the room purified, and then made that room to be used as the way it should be. He also found out that people didn't offer offerings properly to those who served for the temple, so they all had gone back to their own fields. So he reformed the system so that they could serve for the temple again.

Nehemiah also found out an evil thing that some Jews were treading winepresses on the Sabbath and bringing in grain and loading it on donkeys. They were bringing various things into Jerusalem to sell them on the Sabbath day.

Nehemiah rebuked the nobles of Judah and said to them, "What is this wicked thing you are doing-desecrating the Sabbath day?" And when evening shadows fell on the gates of Jerusalem before the Sabbath, he ordered the doors to be shut and not opened until the Sabbath was over.

Moreover, he rebuked those who intermarried with the Gentiles. He found out that a grandson of a priest became the son-in-law of Sanballat and evicted the priest out. By doing so, he made everything be prepared for the Israelites to worship God.

Teachings for Us

Here ended the records about Nehemiah the righteous man and prophet.

The history of rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem by Nehemiah is a symbol of the history of building the spiritual city Jerusalem. So it has a very important meaning in this age when the new Jerusalem is being built.

Nehemiah worked for God's glory and loved Jerusalem where God's holy name was. We are impressed by his thought and faith.

In the period when kings' words were as powerful as laws, to look sad in front of a king could mean death. However Nehemiah didn't hesitate but went to the king and asked him to let him go to Jerusalem.
Nehemiah was so eager to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem which God loved that he didn't fear the enemies who interrupted his rebuilding the wall but kept building it, depending on God who created the heavens and the earth.

Those who are like Sanballat and Tobiah are interrupting our building the wall of Jerusalem today. If there were no interruption today, there would have been no interruption in the time of Nehemiah. Because the history of building the physical Jerusalem city is a copy, and the history of building the new Jerusalem in this age is the reality.

Just as most people interrupted Nehemiah, people around us, those who do not want the new Jerusalem to be built, are interrupting us. Their interruption will last until the new Jerusalem is completed.

When the earthly Jerusalem was almost completed, the enemies gave a false prophecy to intimidate Nehemiah and the Jews. The same thing will happen in the last days.

What is certain is that the enemies cannot stop God's work. The enemies attacked Nehemiah to stop his building the wall but God frustrated their plot. Therefore in building the new Jerusalem also, Christ Ahnsahnghong will frustrate the enemies' plot and help us, so we don't have to fear them.

As in the time of Nehemiah people built the wall with arms with them, we should also keep building new Jerusalem, fighting against those who interrupt the work.

When we keep faith in the Holy Spirit and the Bride, fight a good faith for building the new Jerusalem and overcome all interruptions, we will have the name of new Jerusalem and the new name of Jesus written on our foreheads.

Rev 3:11-12 『I am coming soon. … Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of … the new Jerusalem, … and I will also write on him my new name.』

Biblical Characters - Gideon (wms cog & Heavenly Mother)

Gideon was a judge in around 1,200 B.C.. When the Israelites were oppressed by Midian, he was called by God and defeated the Midianites.

☆ Sin of Israel

The Israelites came out of Egypt and entered the land of Canaan. As time passed, they began to forget God who had led them with His mighty power.

They intermarried with Gentiles and worshiped pagan gods such as Baal and Asherah. Whenever they did such corrupted things, the Israelites were oppressed by other peoples.

In the time of Gideon, son of Joash from the tribe of Manasseh, the Israelites suffered under the oppression of Midian for 7 years. They were afraid of Midianites and lived in mountain clefts, caves and strongholds. Whenever the Israelites planted their crops, the Midianites, Amalekites and other eastern peoples invaded the country and ruined the crops and did not spare a living thing for Israel. When they threshed wheat, they had to be careful not to be found by the Midianites. They had no other choice but to pray to God.

☆ God chose Gideon

God heard the prayer of the Israelites and chose Gideon as a judge. God decided to save Israel out of the hand of Midian through him.

Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from Midianites when he met God. That same night he tore down Baal's altar and cut down the Asherah pole beside it, and then built altar and offered a bull as a burnt offering to God (Jdg 6:25).

Next day, the neighbors found out that Baal's altar had been torn down and Asherah had been cut down. They tried to kill Gideon.

Then Joash, Gideon's father, told them instead of Gideon, "Are you going to plead Baal's cause? Are you trying to save him? If Baal really is a god, he can defend himself." So that day they called Gideon "Jerub-Baal."

* Jerub-Baal means "Let Baal contend with him" (Jdg 6:26-32).

☆ Battle with Midian

Soon all Midianites, Amalekites and other eastern peoples joined forces and crossed over the Jordan and camped. Gideon contacted each tribe of Israel and gathered an army.

Before fighting against his enemy, he wanted to make sure that God was with him. So he asked God, "I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said." And the next day he found that there was dew only on the fleece and that all the ground was dry. He double checked that God was with him and went to the battle field with faith in God.

☆ A hundred and thirty five thousand to three hundred

The enemy had 135,000 soldiers and Israel had 32,000. However, God said to Gideon, "You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her," and "Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave for home." Then 22,000 turned back and 10,000 were left. God said again that 10,000 was still too many and selected only 300 soldiers.

From the view of man it is impossible that 300 soldiers defeat 135,000 soldiers. However, if there is God's help, only 3 men can beat 135,000.

☆ Gideon's victory

Gideon had to fight against 135,000 soldiers with only 300 men. What was required of him was an absolute faith in God.

To strengthen his faith God let him hear a conversation of Midian soldiers about a dream (Jdg 7:10-14). Gideon and 300 soldiers attacked the Midianites, blowing the trumpets and smashing the jars and shouting, "A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!"

The Midianites turned on each other with their swords at that dark night and killed each other.

The Israelites wanted Gideon to be their king because he saved them out of the hand of Midian. However, Gideon refused it flatly.

"I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The LORD will rule over you" (Jdg 8:23).

Through this scene we notice that the Israelites wanted to be ruled by a king rather than by God. Their request was accepted as Saul was anointed in the time of Samuel; they had to obey the king whom they appointed and kneeled down before him.

☆ Teachings for us
We've studied the life of Gideon not to discuss his character, but to learn important how it is to obey God willingly whatever God orders us to do.

Gideon was afraid at first. That is why he tore down Baal's altar at night secretly rather than in the daytime. And that is why he asked God, "Please let there be dew only on the fleece," "Please make the fleece dry this time."

It was impossible for Gideon to win over the Midianites with his own strength. When God promised to help him, he could defeat the great army with only 300 men.

How should we act when God calls us? We can be answered through the history of Gideon who saved Israel, depending on God. And we can learn that it is not human's ability or common sense or wisdom but absolute faith in God that enables us get victory.

What is important is whether he is chosen by God, not what kind of person he is.

Let's absolutely believe in the power of God, who appointed us as the prophets in the last days, and obey God's calling.

Biblical knowledge - Israel (Church of God&Christ Ahnsahnghong)

1. Jacob's another name

Jacob was on the way to his hometown with his family from the house of Laban, his mother's brother. When he crossed the ford of the Jabbok, he sent all his family and possessions across the stream safely, and he was left alone. Then he wrestled with a man till daybreak.

Jacob said that he wouldn't let the man go unless the man blessed him. His hip was wrenched, but he still wanted the man to bless him.

Then the man asked Jacob his name and said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel" (Ge 32:24-28). Thereafter Jacob was called Israel as well as Jacob.

※ Israel : Overcoming a struggle with God

2. Jacob's offspring

Jacob's offsprings are called 'the descendants of Israel,' or 'Israel.'

Ex 11:7 “But among the Israelites not a dog will bark at any man or animal. Then you will know that the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.”

Therefore the word, 'Israel,' indicates Jacob or his offspring.

3. The name of the nation

After King Solomon died, Israel was divided into two, south and north. South was called Judah, and Rehoboam who was Solomon's son ruled the areas to which some of the tribe of Benjamin and the tribe of Judah belonged. North was called Israel and 10 tribes belonged to her. Afterwards the prophets called the two countries the house of Israel and the house of Judah (Jer 11:10) [Judah of the south and Israel of the North].

Jerusalem was destroyed by the Roman army in A.D. 70. When the offsprings of Jacob retook their country 1,900 years later, they called it 'Israel.'

4. The spiritual Israel

Israel indicated the children of promise who inherited the land which God gave. In the New Testament times, the chosen people who will inherit heaven through the new covenant are called 'Israel.'

"Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule, even to the Israel of God" (Gal 6:16).

"If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise" (Gal 3:29).

"'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel'" (Mt 2:6).

Eternal heaven will be inherited to the spiritual Israelites, not to the physical Israelites.

An International Bible Seminar Solves the Secret of "Elohim"

An International Bible Seminar Solves the Secret of "Elohim"
A thousand university students inside and outside of Korea gathered-
"A relationship between feminism and God the Mother gives refreshing shock"

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, US. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Korean Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jung-Eun, US. First Lady Michelle Obama and renowned talk show host Oprah Winfrey - these women are on Forbes' list, "100 Most Powerful Women in the World." The increase of the number of women who stand out in their fields, proves that now is the age when the power of women is needed more than ever before.

The feminine style is not assertive and does not raise one's own voice but solves problems with gentleness and consideration, unlike the masculine style that is authoritative and charismatic. Recently, there was a statement clarifying the reason why feminism attracts people's attention.

On August 20, there was a seminar in which "feminism" had an interesting answer to the cause of the international situations. "The 1st International bible Seminar," which was held at Kunkuk University New Millennium Hall, was to help university students have an international point of view on things. Reasoning about international situations through the Bible, the seminar featured the presentations of two university students from Korea and America and the special lecture by Pastor Joo-Cheol Kim.

The seminar was attended by a thousand university students and professors, who were full of fervent curiosity. What caught the attention of the attendants was the fact that 86 university students from 18 countries, including U.S.A., Canada, England, Germany and Austria, had come together. After finishing their two week schedule, they left for their countries on August 27.

Pastor Joo-Cheol Kim (General Pastor of the Church of God World Mission Society) said that today's world situation is relevant to a conundrum of the Bible. The conundrum is about God Elohim, which many Biblicists, theologians and pastors have studied but have not been able to find an answer until today.

Pastor Kim said, "The Bible calls God, whom we've known as a singular being. 'We.' In the Hebrew bible, the word 'Elohim,' which is the plural term meaning 'Gods,' appears 2,500 times." He also emphasized, "When we understand the true meaning of 'Elohim,' we can understand the reason why this age is changing from a male-dominated society to a female-dominated society."

Pastor Joo-Cheol Kim explained the word "Elohim," which has been one of the mysteries of the Bible until now. "According to Genesis 1:26, the first chapter of the Bible, the first human Adam (male) and Eve (female) were created in the image of God. This shows that God has two images- male and female. Since we call God of the male image 'Father,' it is natural for us to call God of the female image 'Mother.' In other words, Elohim in the Bible is a plural concept of God-God the Father and God the Mother."
"On earth, life is given by mothers. That is God's providence showing the existence of God the Mother. And the feminism that currently appeals worldwide is a phenomenon informing us of the appearance of God the Mother," he said.
Does the appearance of God the Mother have something to do with feminism?

From the beginning of the 21st century, femininity started to appeal to people, and it is true that many regard motherly love as a key word for world peace; that's because there is an essential yearning for mother in the heart of all mankind living in this harsh world. In fact, recently there was an opinion that the existence of God the Mother is natural just as there exist parents, father and mother, who gives birth to the children. Some netizens explain the existence of God the Mother through Internet UCC, and media organizations express their curiosity about God the Mother.

Crystal Mouton (22) who visited Korea from the United States gave a presentation during the Bible Seminar and said, "I thought that feminism started in 1950-60s, but I was surprised to know that it appeared even when God created the world." After the seminar, Jung-ho Ji (21) who was the second presenter said, "As Father exists, Mother exists. It's very natural. This was an excellent opportunity for attendants to break their fixed idea that God only exists as Father."

Even in Korea, femininity like maternal love is needed more and more in various fields of society, economy and culture. From this point of view, we cannot ignore the claim that the current social phenomenon is a message that informs us of the appearance of God the Mother.

Triniy - Jesus=Holy Spirit, Ahnsahnghong(WMS COG&Heavenly Mother)

God the Son, Jesus = God the Holy Spirit, Ahnsahnghong

Let’s confirm that God the Son, Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit, Ahnsahnghong, are one God.

Isa. 9:6 『...a son ...will be called Wonderful Counselor... 』

John 14:26 『"But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things..."』

The Son is the Counselor, and the Counselor is the Holy Spirit, so we can easily conclude that the Son, Jesus, is the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are not separate, but are one. God the Father-Jehovah, God the Son-Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit-Ahnsahnghong, are one God.

The Holy Spirit Is a Personal Being

The Holy Spirit is not a kind of energy or an electric wave. The Holy Spirit is a personal being who has feelings (Rom. 15:30), who grieves (Eph. 4:30), who speaks (Rev. 2:7), who groans (Rom. 8:26), who intercedes (Rom. 8:26), who testifies about God (John 15:26), who teaches (John 14:26), who gives commands (Rom. 8:29), who keeps us from preaching in certain places (Acts 16:6-7), who thinks (Rom. 8:27), and who has been blasphemed (Matt. 12: 31-32).

John 14:26, NASB 『"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.』

The Holy Spirit is referred to as "He," meaning that the Holy Spirit is a personal being.

Matt. 28:19 『"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,"』

If the Holy Spirit was not a man with character, but merely an invisible, active power-like an electric wave, or energy-how would it be possible for the Holy Spirit to have a name? The fact that the Holy Spirit has a name proves that the Holy Spirit is a man, with character.

God commanded us to be baptized in the name of the Father, the name of the Son, and the name of the Holy Spirit, because He would administrate His salvation work with three names (of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit) according to each age. By calling out the three names through which God showed His authority, God’s prophets are to baptize people and commemorate God.

God’s name was "Jehovah" when He played the role of the Father, and it was "Jesus" when He worked as the Son. Then, how should we call upon God when He is working as the Holy Spirit?

The name of the Holy Spirit is Ahnsahnghong.

Since God told us to "baptize (people) in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit," we need to understand that the "Trinity"-God the Father [Jehovah], God the Son [Jesus], and God the Holy Spirit [Ahnsahnghong]-are one God. By this understanding we can receive abundant blessing and we can participate in God’s administration of salvation, which has been carried out through the Trinity.

TRINITY - Jehovah = Jesus(Church of God Christ Ahnsahnghong)

The concept of "Trinity" means that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are not different entities, but are one God. The Trinity-God the Father [Jehovah], God the Son [Jesus], and God the Holy Spirit [Ahnsahnghong]-are one. In order to understand why the members of the Church of God believe in Christ Ahnsahnghong as the Holy Spirit, please study the truths of "the Second Coming Christ."

To better understand the Trinity, let’s first consider the transformation of water. Water is a liquid, but when its temperature falls below 0° C, the water will turn into ice, a solid. When the water is boiled, it turns into vapor, a gas. Water, ice, and vapor have different names and different forms, but their substance is the same: H₂O.

It is similar to when an actor in a monodrama plays three different characters-a father, a son, and a grandson-all having different voices. Although there are three different voices and three different roles, there is only one actor.

Like this, even though God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit may look different, have different names, and have appeared during different ages, the three are one God. The Trinity reveals that God administrates His salvation work while playing three roles.

For six thousand years God has carried out His salvation work in the names of Jehovah, Jesus, and Ahnsahnghong, each according to its age.

God the Father, Jehovah = God the Son, Jesus

Let’s confirm that God the Father, Jehovah, and God the Son, Jesus, are one God.
Isaiah prophesied about Jesus as follows:

Isa. 9:6 『For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.』

Jesus is referred to as the "Son," but the Bible revealed that the son would be called "Mighty God," and "Everlasting Father." Apostle Paul clearly understood that Jesus’ nature was that of God the Father, as follows:

Phil. 2:5-7 『Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man...』

Rom. 9:5 『...Christ, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.』

We can also confirm that God the Father, Jehovah, and God the Son, Jesus, are one God by studying the history of the Creation.

Isa. 44:24 『I am the LORD, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself...』

God the Father-Jehovah-said that He had created everything by Himself, but Jesus said that it was He who had created the world.

Col. 1:16 『For by him [Jesus] all things were created...』

The Bible states that God the Father, Jehovah, created the world, but it also says that God the Son, Jesus, created the world. Therefore, God the Father [Jehovah] and God the Son [Jesus] are clearly one God.

Isa. 44:6 『"This is what the LORD says-Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last...』

God the Father said, "I am the first and I am the last."

Rev. 22:13 『"I [Jesus] am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End."』

God the Son also said, "I am the First and the Last." Therefore, God the Father, Jehovah, and God the Son, Jesus, are one God.

THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD

The Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month, according to the sacred calendar, is the feast that commemorates Christ's suffering on the cross (Lev. 23:6). The Church of God celebrates the Feast of Unleavened Bread on the fifteenth day of the first month by the sacred calendar, following the teachings of Second Coming Christ Ahnsahnghong.

Origin

This feast originated from the Israelites' suffering, from all the trials that they had experienced from the time they had kept the Passover and left Egypt, until the time they had crossed the Red Sea. Pharaoh, king of Egypt, released the Israelites from their Egyptian bondage, but immediately changed his mind. He sent all the chariots of Egypt to chase after them-including six hundred of the country's best chariots-to capture the Israelites and bring them back to Egypt. As Pharaoh's army approached, the Israelites were terrified and cried out to the LORD. At that moment, the LORD God divided the Red Sea by Moses' staff, revealing dry ground between the two walls of water. It is written that God allowed six-hundred thousand men to safely cross the Red Sea. Then, how many women and children do you think were among them? God protected the Israelites from the Egyptian army by a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire, delaying the Egyptians' ability to chase after God's people. We can only assume how hasty and nervous the fugitives' hearts were at that time. All of the difficulties and hardships that the Israelites endured during this time period became the origin of the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Ex. 14:1-31).

Ceremony

In the Old Testament times, God commanded His people to eat unleavened bread (made without yeast) and bitter herbs, so that they would remember the suffering of the Israelites. The unleavened bread was also called the "bread of affliction" (Deut. 16:3). These events were a prophecy to reveal that Jesus would suffer, being hung on the cross. In the New Testament times, we participate in Christ's suffering by fasting, according to God's command.

Mark 2:20 『"But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast."』

Prophecy and its fulfillment

The Feast of Unleavened Bread is a feast of suffering, representing the Crucifixion of Jesus. The Israelites' traveling into the Red Sea represented Jesus' going into the tomb. Their landing on the other side of the Sea represented His resurrection, the significance of which is implied in the baptism that we undergo now. On the Feast of Unleavened Bread, Moses led the natural Israelites from Egypt into the Desert of Sinai, and on this feast Jesus led the spiritual Israelites from this sinful world-the reality of Egypt-into the desert of faith. Whoever believes in Christ and is baptized has symbolically crossed the Red Sea and entered the desert of faith. When we commemorate the Feast of Unleavened Bread, we participate in Christ's suffering, and we are given the power from God to endure the tribulations and hardships that we will be faced with (Luke 22:43-44).

THE FEAST OF FIRSTFRUITS

Resurrection Day, on which Jesus rose from death, is a memorial to commemorate God's great power. In the Old Testament times, this day was known as the Day of Firstfruits. It is a sacred feast of God, which is to be celebrated on the day after the Sabbath, following the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Lev. 23:9-14). The Church of God, which faithfully obeys every teaching of the Bible, celebrates Resurrection Day on the date that was specified in the Bible. The Church of God breaks the bread that God promised would open our spiritual eyes, while the other churches eat boiled eggs-following the pagan customs-on a date which was never written in the Bible.

Let's correctly understand the Day of Resurrection as it was given in the Bible so that we can celebrate the feast holy.

Origin

When the nervous Israelites were being chased by the Egyptian army, God allowed them to cross the Red Sea under His protection, even though they had been so terrified. When God put the Sea-which had been divided-back in its place, the Egyptian army that had pursued them was buried in water. God commanded the Israelites to annually commemorate the day when they had landed on the other side of the Red Sea, so that they might remember God's great power revealed on that day. This is the origin of the Day of Firstfruits (Ex. 14:26-31).

Ceremony

The word "firstfruits" reveals its meaning. On the day after the Sabbath, the Israelites brought a sheaf of the first grain to the priest, and the priest waved the sheaf before God so that it could be accepted on behalf of the people (Lev. 23: 9-11).

On the same day, in the New Testament times, Jesus gave bread to two disciples who were traveling to a village named Emmaus. After the disciples broke the bread that Jesus had given to them, their spiritual eyes were opened, and they recognized Him (Luke 24:13-35).

Prophecy and its fulfillment

As God had commanded, the priests were to wave a sheaf of the first grain before the LORD on the day after the Sabbath (Sunday) so that God would accept their offering.

Lev. 23:10-12 『"When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest. He is to wave the sheaf before the LORD so it will be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath."』

Here, the first grain-the firstfruits-stands for Christ, who was raised from the dead as the firstfruits of those who had fallen asleep.

1 Cor. 15:20 『But Christ had indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.』

The offering to be presented on the Day of Firstfruits, a sheaf of the first grain, was to be brought to God on the day after the Sabbath-that is, Sunday. The firstfruits stand for Christ, so it is only logical that Resurrection Day, when Jesus rose from death, would be on Sunday, the day after the Sabbath.

Mark 16:2-6 『Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?" But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away..."You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here."』

The Day of Firstfruits is the shadow of Resurrection Day. As the Day of Firstfruits was celebrated on the day after the Sabbath, Sunday, so Resurrection Day is to be celebrated on Sunday, in fulfillment of the prophecy. Therefore the Day of Firstfruits, Resurrection Day, is celebrated on Sunday every year. By rising from the dead as the firstfruits of those who had fallen asleep, Jesus became the true offering of the Day of Firstfruits, belonging to the seven feasts of three times.

Matt. 27:52-53 『The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.』

In those days, the holy people who had been saved through the gospel became the ripe grains of the wheat harvest, and today, we have become the ripe grains of the last autumn harvest (Ex. 23:16).

The God of the Bible is a Plural God

Gen. 1:26-27 "Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground

.So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them."

Some may argue that this is referring to the angels. To such claims:

Isa. 44:24 “This is what the LORD says
your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb:
I am the LORD,
who has made all things,
who alone stretched out the heavens,
who spread out the earth by myself,”

God emphasized that He created everything by Himself. So no help from angels!

Most claim that God spoke plurally because it’s referring to the Holy Trinity. Such a claim shows that people do not fully understand what the Holy Trinity is; that it means that God the Father Jehovah, the Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit Ahnsahnghong are one person. So even if He were “talking to Himself” why speak in plural? Also, looking at the Holy Trinity, God the Father is a male image, the Son Jesus is male, and the Holy Spirit based on the New Testament is a male:

John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 16:7 But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

So why did God speak in a plural sense when He made mankind in His image? The answer is in verse 27:

Gen. 1:27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

Since we call the male image of God Father, naturally what should we call the female image of God?

THE FEAST OF TRUMPETS

The harvest time, during which the autumn crops are gathered, begins with the Feast of Trumpets. On the first day of the seventh month by sacred year (Lev. 23:24), the Israelites held a sacred assembly, blowing their trumpets in order to prepare for the Day of Atonement.

The Church of God celebrates the Feast of Trumpets in autumn according to the teachings of Christ Ahnsahnghong. The Church boldly preaches about the Second Coming Christ, Ahnsahnghong, and the feasts of God, blowing the trumpet of the gospel.

Origin

God commanded the Israelites to commemorate the Day of Atonement annually?the day when Moses had received the new stone tablets, inscribed with the Ten Commandments, and had come down from Mount Sinai. The Day of Atonement was to be celebrated every year so that the Israelites could remember the day and could deeply repent of their sins. They prepared for the Day of Atonement in spirit and in truth, blowing trumpets for the ten days leading up to the Day of Atonement. By this, the Israelites repented of the sins that they had committed during the year, abstaining from all unholy things.

Ceremony

The Israelites commemorated the Feast of Trumpets with trumpet blasts and presented an offering of fire to God.

Lev. 23:23-25 『The LORD said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites: 'On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts. Do no regular work, but present an offering made to the LORD by fire.'"』

Prophecy and its fulfillment

Everything written in the Old Testament is a shadow of the things which were to come. This feast was also a shadow, testifying about the Advent Movement for Jesus' Second Coming-1834 to 1844-led by William Miller. The ten days between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement represented ten years, prophetically (Ezek. 4:6). This ten-year-long movement fulfilled the prophecy of the Feast of Trumpets. It was the preparation for the Day of Atonement-October 22, 1844, the tenth day of the seventh month, by sacred year-on which Jesus entered the Most Holy Place in heaven. As was shown through the fulfillment of the Feast of Trumpets, every prophecy disclosed in the seven feasts of three times will be fulfilled without fail.

Just as the people had loudly blown trumpets during the Feast of Trumpets, so there was a movement for Jesus' second coming, recognized by the loud cries of preaching-the trumpet blasts. Beginning on the first day of the seventh month in 1844 (by sacred year), all of the brothers and sisters prayed together more earnestly to God. Jesus answered them by entering the Most Holy Place in heaven on October 22, 1844, the Day of Atonement-the tenth day of the seventh month by sacred year. God allowed William Miller and the Advent Movement so that His will would be fulfilled. Thus, God unexpectedly fulfills His will even though people do not realize or perform His will. As it is written:

Luke 19:37-40 『"I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."』

The movement was led by people who did not know of God's feasts, but their work resulted in the fulfillment of the prophecy of the Feast of Trumpets. When we keep the Feast of Trumpets, with one mind and purpose, and pray earnestly to God for the ten days leading up to the Day of Atonement, our prayers will be presented before God as the smoke of incense (Rev. 8:3-4). God will answer our prayers and lavish on us great blessings.
