Solomon became king after David. He went to the tabernacle at the high place in Gibeon (the tabernacle which Moses had built was there) and offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. He received blessings of wisdom, riches and honor from God and began to build the temple of God right away in the fourth year of his reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, the second month, and completed it in the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month.
He spent seven years and 6 months building it (1 Ki 6:1-38).
When the temple of God was built in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah (2 Ch 3:1), King Solomon gathered the priests, carried the ark of the covenant which was in the Jerusalem City, and placed it in the Most High Place. He then prayed to God and offered up the burnt offering. God accepted the offering. Fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering (2 Ch 5:1-7:1).
The structure of the tabernacle
The tabernacle was a rectangular moveable temple, width of 50 cubits and length of 100 cubits.
※ Cubit : an ancient linear unit based on the length of the forearm, usually from 17 to 21 inches. There is a bit of difference depending on the generations and regions.
The entrance of the tabernacle faced the east, and the Most Holy Place, where the throne of God was, the west. The altar of burnt offering for presenting offerings by fire was placed in front of the entrance, the basin for washing the hands and feet was placed in front of the sanctuary. The sanctuary was divided into the main hall and the inner sanctuary. The main hall was called the Holy Place, the inner sanctuary the Most Holy Place.
In the Holy Place were the gold altar of incense, the gold lampstands, the tables of the Presence for the bread of the Presence. In the Most Holy Place was the ark of the covenant which had the Ten Commandments in it. There was a curtain between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place; the curtain blocked the way to the Most Holy Place. However, when Christ Jesus died on the cross, the curtain which was blocking the way to the Most Holy Place from the Holy Place was torn in two from top to bottom, and the way to the Most Holy Place was opened (Mt 27:50).
We hadn't been able to enter the Most Holy Place, but the way to the Most Holy Place was opened. We are now able to enter the Most Holy Place freely, following the Christ (Heb 6:19-20). To say it again, the way to the tree of life, the way to live, which had been blocked till then was opened (Heb 10:19).
