The Ten Commandments and the Tabernacle

When Moses received the stone tablets with the Ten Commandments written on them on Mount Sinai, God showed him the tabernacle in heaven. Moses came down from the mount and delivered the word of God to the people. To keep the tablets of the Ten Commandments, a tabernacle had to be built. So he made the people gather the materials for the tabernacle such as gold, silver, linen and cotton and so on. They brought freewill offerings every day, and so many materials to build a tabernacle were gathered that Moses told them not to bring any more (Ex 35:4-36:7).


Technicians such as Bezalel and Oholiab began to build a tabernacle, completed it on the 1st day of the first month the next year, and placed the ark of the covenant, which contained the stone tablets with the Ten Commandments written on them, in the Most Holy Place.

The sanctuary was made of the tent of twisted thread. So the sanctuary was called the tent as well as the tabernacle. The tabernacle was not a stationary temple, but a movable one for the Israelites moved continually in the desert.
